LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- A Metro police officer shot a suspected armed robber Saturday afternoon in neighborhood near Sahara and Buffalo.

Police say the wounded suspect was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, after a chase that started with a call of an armed robbery at U.S. Bank on South Rainbow.

Residents reported multiple gunshots in the area of Buffalo Drive and Laredo Street just south of Sahara Avenue.

Metro says the man entered the bank with two guns and left in a car. Police were able to confront him in the 7800 block of West Sahara in a parking lot with guns drawn when the suspected took off in a car hitting other cars, police say, including a squad car.

Police followed the man, described as being in 40s, into a nearby neighborhood. That’s when police say he took off on foot and broke into one house, fired a shot; and then entered another house. A homeowner was there and grabbed a handgun.

“The homeowner was there with his wife and children. He retrieved his firearm and fired at the suspect as he was attempting to break into his home,” said Deputy Chief Kathleen O’Connor of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Police aren’t sure if the homeowner’s bullets struck the man, but when the suspect robber made it to the backyard officers were there. Metro says the suspect pointed a gun, so one of the officers fired back, multiple times.

The commotion in the neighborhood made nearby businesses uneasy.

“We didn't know if we should lock the doors because we're women in here and clients are coming and going and they said no the person who they were after was apprehended,” said Felicia Field who runs Montage Hair Studio.

But the investigation continues, as there are different crime scenes, an officer-involved shooting and federal jurisdiction as it involves a bank.

As of Saturday evening, the names of the suspect and officer have not been released.

When you hear gun fire you should lock the door. The homeowner with the gun probably saved his family from being in a hostage situation.

"Leaving Vegas" can you go now, seriously, now. . BTW that factiod was clearly stated in this article, plus the fact that it was an ongoing investigation. . "Sharrianne" again, developing story, at this point even the news media doesn't even know if he had a weapon or not.

The law enforcement here are really strict & tough & don't mess around! They're much better than the police in my former hometown of Chicago. Good job to all the law enforcement agencies here in Clark County & the entire state of Nevada!

Hey channel 3, way to gloss over the fact that a homeowner used a firearm to protect his property. I'm sure if something had gone sideways you'd have all over it. Gee, I wonder which side of the gun issue you guys are on?
