LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- A violent criminal was taken off the streets Thursday night. News 3 first told you about James Ambrose in September during Manhunt Monday.
His story was again featured on “America's Most Wanted.”
One month after joining Metro’s Enterprise Area Command, Sgt. Steve Reese received this alert.
“We found out there was a fugitive out of Idaho by the name of James Ambrose, wanted for murder up in Idaho,” Reese said. “And he was accused of a brutal home invasion of an older couple in Las Vegas. That was May.”
Police say but a major break came this week -- a tip that Ambrose was living in a tunnel. Sgt. Reese and his patrol officers went looking.
“He was sleeping under the center portion of the tunnel, underneath Arville and he had a makeshift camp,” Reese said.
And at first he didn’t say who he was.
“He gave us a fake name, trying to hide his identity,” Reese said. “Eventually he came clean and said, ‘I'm James Dwayne Ambrose.’ “
Reese credits good, old-fashioned police work for this capture.
Local charges include burglary, robbery and battery with a deadly weapon. Ambrose is also accused of murder in Idaho.
