LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- The parents of Brazyl Ward, the 6-year-old girl critically injured by a hit-and-run driver on Halloween night, see her recovery as a miracle.

Watching their daughter in a coma, Brandon and Tiffany Ward kept high hopes even as doctors doubted she would celebrate another birthday.

Through several surgeries, Brazyl has fought back against brain damage.

Her family did not know if she would ever wake up, but Tuesday night her parents were calling her recovery a miracle.

Asked if she can say “miracle,” Brazyl repeated the word clearly and loudly.

As a patient in a rehabilitation facility just for children, Brazyl is learning how to live again one day at a time.

“I’m doing it,” she says.

Her words come easier through singing. “I feel so much better now!”

Still in a wheelchair, Brazyl is every bit a girl – pink shoes, pink watch, painted nails, and butterflies sparkling on the helmet that protects her healing brain.

“Brazyl has a purpose on this Earth, greater than we even know,” says her father, Brandon.

Brazyl’s parents say every second with their child is a gift.

“Put the phone down,” Tiffany Ward advises other parents. “Quality time with your kids. Never think it’s too much if something God forbid could be taken from you. Don’t want regrets.”

Metro continues its investigation of the hit-and-run on Peace Way near Kim Elementary School. Officers ask anyone who knows anything about the case to call Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555.
