LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- The Clark County School District says administrators at Arbor View High School are investigating after a student was attacked in a classroom last week.
A video of the incident shows a freshman punching and kicking a classmate in the head, face and upper back.
The teen's mother, Stephanie, says they are fortunate her daughter did not suffer any broken bones or fractures. The teen says she was threatened in the hallway but told the girl she didn't want to fight.
But when the bell rang after third period biology, she says she was attacked. The school district says a teacher inside the classroom tried to stop the attack and left to get help from a male teacher. A student and a teacher than stopped the fight.
Within hours, the video went viral through text messages, Twitter and Facebook.
"I watch it every now and then. It's upsetting," the teen said, adding that people have been commenting on the video to say she deserved the beating.
Stephanie said that while her daughter was fortunate not to sustain major injuries, she wants others to know that bullying is not the way to go.
"Everybody is going to have differences,” she said. “People are going to have disagreements. But no matter what it is, it doesn’t give anybody the right to violate another human being."
In a show of courage, the teen says this incident isn't stopping her from going back to school.
The school district has said they do not condone bullying or violence. they issued a statement that reads, in part:
"The Clark County School District has strict, zero-tolerance rules in place regarding bullying and fighting. The district has always had policies and procedures in place to deal with such behavior."
In late developments, the school district is calling this incident a fight, not a bullying incident.
CCSD says disciplinary action has been taken against the teens involved in the fight. In most cases, that includes either suspension, expulsion, or criminal charges. School officials are also looking into who posted the videos online.
