LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- Members of the Clark County School District Board of Directors voted 6-1 today to table a measure to hire a search firm to find candidates for superintendent.
The board had been considering hiring a Nebraska-based firm to conduct a search for at least three finalists to replace Dwight Jones, who left the top post in the district late last month to care for his ailing mother in Texas.
At today's meeting. board members sparred over their next move. Some said they feel it is too soon to start a nationwide search while others disagreed because of their stated desire to have a person in the position by the end of the year.
Some said they were hearing from parents and teachers that Interim Superintendent Pat Skorkowsky could be a good choice to be named to the permanent position.
Board member Linda Young was the one vote against tabling the measure.
The board set May 20 as a date to reconsider a possible contract with the search firm, CCSD communications staffer Melinda Malone said in an email to News 3.
