As a part of Hispanic heritage month, we are bringing you a new series from NBCLatino.com called, Cafecito. This week, Cafecito features director Robert Rodriguez who's action flick machete kills hits theaters nationwide on October eleventh.

(NBCLatino.com)  -- On this special episode of Cafecito, we're in Austin, Texas with director and visionary Robert Rodriguez, as we near the premiere of his new film, machete kills.

"Can you talk to me about the inspiration for your new film, machete kills?"

"I first came up with machete back in '94. I met Danny Trejo on the set of desperado and I told him someday you're gonna play machete for me. It was such a new idea...people really responded."

"I was really proud of the fact that we had a Latin action hero and I thought that there should be a second one and to blow it up even more."

Garcia: you'll be honored at the ALMA Awards. How does that feel and why is that important to you?

"Oh it's just, that's been my whole career. You know past twenty years since el mariachi seeing that there's such a need for that to change the face of Hollywood. And what they were presenting it was a struggle at first. But as we broke through each barrier and started creating this star system of actors by giving Danny (Trejo), Cheech (Marin), Salma (Hayek), Antonio (Banderas) you know places to go and become stars of films that just changed how the thinking was. The thinking was you can't open up a move with a Latin actor. That wasn't based on any experience. That's just what people thought and we were able to change that."
