News 3's Christine Kim show us how Catholic Charities helped to bring a sense of home to those who have very little in this down economy.

LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) With all the talk of commerce, it's easy to forget not everyone will be shopping this Thanksgving.

Just having a meal on the table is a big deal.

One look at 4-year-old Carmen Acosta and you'll understand what the Thanksgiving holiday is all about.

"I want turkey," Carmen says to her father, Juan Acosta.

The Acostas know that a warm traditional meal fills more than empty stomachs. It brings families together during tough times.

“It's a little bit of the load off the expense that we have to bear on Thanksgiving. Especially for struggling families like us,” said Juan Acosto who was having a meal with his daughter Carmen.

There is appreciation among hundreds at Catholic Charities.

As an ushering volunteer, L.J. Harness sees the faces that come through.

"It's the gift is coming back to me by being here," Harness said.

Harness understands their hardships and how one smile can go a long way.

“Twelve years ago I was actually homeless because of addiction," Harness said. "Being out on the streets there were people who never gave up on me. Part of my recovery is giving back.”

Others are making sure all the trimmings make it out to the crowd.

It's a meal that gets the approval of little Carmen during a day of giving and receiving.
