LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- A 17-year-old girl was found dead on East Charleston Boulevard by pedestrians shortly after midnight Sunday, the victim of a hit-and-run accident.

Metro said Alexis Monasterio was found about 12:10 a.m. in the center travel lane on Charleston near the intersection on Stillwater Bridge Street. That is on the far east side of the Las Vegas Valley. Police said witness statements and evidence indicated that she had been struck by a westbound vehicle.

The death is the 26th traffic-related fatality in Metro's jurisdiction this year.

The name of the victim was released by the Clark County coroner on Sunday. The exact cause of death is yet to be determined.

Anyone with information is urged to call Detective P. Solomon at (702) 828-3786 of Metro's Fatal Detail, or to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555 or go to crimestoppersofnv.com. Tips directly leading to an arrest or an indictment processed through Crime Stoppers may result in a cash reward.

She's right the corner did say that the injuries were obtained by being pushed out of the car. I knew the girl personally. she was an amazing person. She wasn't jaywalking. The boy was a senior last year at East tech. He has since then fled. they are basing me information on what the coroner said. She was able to drive and had a car. Another good reason to suspect that she wasn't in fact a hit in run case. And any obnoxious people better get their facts straight.

I see now the parents of this young girl believes she was murder. I like to know what they are basing their conclusion on??? Let the police handle the case. What can be done now, neighbors need to be aware of vehicles in their neighborhood with damage or a vehicle they have not see all of a sudden. Students need to observe and see if a vehicle that there everyday has not been seen. I sure this driver lives in the neighborhood or might of attended the school in which she attended.

The coroners office said her injuries indicate she might've been pushed out of a car. This was my friend, she was a great person.

It's unfortunate we live in such an unempathetic society. It's unfortunate that it usually takes the death of someone close to you to realize that others have felt the pain of death, too. The fact that someone can joke or push an agenda while others grieve is just scummy, at best. Condolences to those that have lost; bad things to those who won't take responsibility for their actions.

Ya'll have made you're points, yet free speech is a right I have and am not afraid to use. What about the other 28 people who died, I'm sure they had medal's and were nice people in their own right, but the fact is that they all were J-Walking!!! I see it all the time and I live in the NW.....and granted there are a lot of dumb drivers who run red lights and speed, etc. Thats why this and many other cities need traffic camera's.....But then that wont happen, for people cry about privacy.....There isnt enough money to put a cop at every corner, which I dont understand why, being that the casino's make billions a year.....so what's next??....The only other alternative, build cross-walks that go above traffic, like the one by Western High School and US 95, but that wont work either....too many lazy people in town that wont walk up those ramps.....and @Stearg...learn how to spell and leave that short hand crap to the courts......and as far as the person who ran....they'll get caught, they always do.....I remember back in the day when I worked at Souther Nevada Memorial Hospital or UMC, a hit and run Pedestrian came in and when they took off her shirt, on her back was the license plate of the runner stamped into her skin....

BigDan, better yet, go after the casinos that continue to serve intoxicated persons and then watch as they drive off in their drunken stupor. Alcohol Awareness, it is the law, yet no one enforces it.

Such a sad story...I live right across the street from the accident and cars speed up and down that block all the time. The fact of the matter is some idiot hit her and left her to die... It does not matter why she was out at night, not all 17 year olds have the luxury to drive, therefore some walk to where they want to go. Even if this happen at 7pm, that fool who hit and ran would have done the same...Nobody deserves that! I hope and pray they find the person who did this, and justice is served... I send condolences to all family and friends...

@ BigDan It may well be that she did something foolish but that doesn't excuse the actions of the idiot who ran her down and took off. Believe me, there are plenty of idiots in this town who speed, run red lights and otherwise drive like maniacs. And from now on when some moron playing with their cell phone causes an accident or fatality they ought to have it rammed down their throat.
