LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) — The Clark County School District says it plans to hire 2,000 teachers in preparation for the upcoming 2014-15 school year because of increased districtwide enrollment, kindergarten class size reduction, retirements and resignations.

In the news release, the School District says it also will hire approximately 500 support staff, including bus drivers and classroom aids. Additionally, the district is looking to increase its pool of qualified substitute teachers.

State-mandated kindergarten class size reduction, which is required for the 2014-15 school year, will create the need for many elementary schools within the district to add kindergarten classes to accommodate their school population.

Superintendent Pat Skorkowsky and CCSD Chief Human Resources Officer Dr. Staci Vesneske will be part of a news conference at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Gene Ward Elementary School, 1555 E. Hacienda Ave., Las Vegas, to discuss the hires.
