LAS VEGAS (KSNV) -- The Clark County School District has a new superintendent.

The school board voted late tonight to move interim superintendent Pat Skorkowsky to a permanent position as the district’s top leader.

This was just one of the major decisions made tonight. The vote was unanimous, 7-0, to name Skorkowsky the next superintendent.

The Clark County School Board voted 6-1 against hiring a firm to conduct a national search for the next superintendent of the nation's fifth-largest school district.

The board chose not to sign a contract with Omaha, Neb.-based McPherson and Jacobson. The firm is the same firm which eventually lead to hiring former school district superintendent Dwight Jones in 2010.

School Board President Carolyn Edwards was the sole dissenting vote.

The School Board discussed whether to appoint Pat Skorkowsky as permanent superintendent and then held in impromptu job interview.
