CARSON CITY, Nev. (KSNV & AP) — A select committee voted 6-1 in favor of expulsion for embattled Assemblyman Steven Brooks.

The committe spent several hours in a closed-door session before taking a public vote to determine Brooks' political future.

The committee than recommended that Brooks is no longer competent to serve in the Nevada Legislature.

The Select Committee discussed evidence and heard testimony on the behavior of the North Las Vegas Democrat.

The meeting had been scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. but Assembly Majority Leader William Horne said the meeting was postponed until 7:30 p.m. because Brooks' lawyer Mitchell Posin had travel delays.

Since January Brooks has been arrested twice and hospitalized for a mental evaluation. He's also been put on leave from the Legislature because of public incidents and was fired from his job as a parks and recreation analyst for the city of Las Vegas.
