I grew up in Las Vegas on West Washington Ave. across the street from Twin Lakes Lodge, which is now Lorenzi Park. I swam on the first Las Vegas Swin Club in the largest pool in Nevada at that time and took State Champion Diver in the under 9 Division. That park was a great place to grow up with rodeos every Sunday, fishing and boating at the lakes.

My father was a Engineer on the Union Pacific Rail Road. I remember taking him to and from work at the old train yard at the west end of Fremont St. I took the Bus down town to watch movie's at the Fremont and El Portal Theatres. Cruised Fremont Street after the High School Football games. My first job was at Macayo Vegas at Tropicana and Paradise Rd, which is no longer there. Then I worked at the Silver Slipper Gambling Hall and Saloon. The Friday nights fights, where Burlesque was best, and a 39 cent Breakfast. Again, its gone.

I started working at the Las Vegas Valley Water District in 1973 where I still work today. Working in the construction Division for them, I worked all four corners of the Las Vegas Valley. In residential and commercial projects, along with the bigger jobs put out by the District.

In 1999 to 2009, I volunteered my time as State Referee Administrator for Nevada with United States Soccer Federation to build the referee program in this fast growing sport here in our State. Working with kids and adults.

Watching this valley grow I had a wonderful time growing up here. I'm Nevada proud to live, work and play here in our great Silver State. Home means Nevada to me.

Lava won't chase out some people

Updated: 10/30/2014 5:40:02 AM

PAHOA, HAWAII - OCTOBER 26: In this handout provided by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), A portion of the front of the June 27th lava flow burns through thick vegetation and a fence on October 26, 2014 in Pahoa, Hawaii. Scientists of the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory conducted ground and air observations of the lava flow from the Kilauea Volcano and determined that it was 510 meters (560 yards) upslope from Pa-hoa Village Road and the flow width was about 50 meters (55 yards) at the leading edge. Molten rock from the flow is inching its way towards homes in the town of Pahoa on Hawaii's Big Island where close to a thousand people live. (Photo by USGS via Getty Images) (Handout, 2014 USGS)
