LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- Tonight, News 3 continues its story tackling the debate over DNA.

News 3 Anchor Jessica Moore goes inside a top secret lab in San Diego, Calif., where thousands of DNA samples are processed every week. All it takes is $99 and about a month.

But is learning where you came from worth the risk of having your personal data catalogued forever?

For thousands of people searching for clues to unlock their ancestry, the lab is where the magic happens every day.

Inside this San Siego processing center, expert DNA lab technicians sort through and analyze tens of thousands of samples every month.

Technicians test for 700,000 markers for each person. Genetic similiarities that will eventually be connected with other people who are also searching for answers.

Lawmakers in Carson City are considering a bill that would change the requirement for submitting DNA.

As it stands now, any convicted felon must submit DNA.  This new bill would require anyone arrested for a felony to submit DNA.

Opponents say that would violate the fundamental right of every american to be assumed innocent until proven guilty.
