LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) – Instead of being put down Tuesday, a dog that killed a Henderson toddler will get a hearing in court on Friday.

Late Monday afternoon, a judge signed an emergency order to stop Henderson Animal Control from putting down the dog, named onion.

The mastiff-Rhodesian mix killed little Jeremiah Eskew-Shahan while his family celebrated the boy's first birthday on April 28.

The Lexus Project, a national animal rights group, is fighting to bring onion to an animal sanctuary near Denver.

The family tells News 3 they want this all to be over so they can start healing.
