LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- More than 55,000 Clark County voters have cast their ballots with a few hours yet to go in the second day of the early voting period.

Clark County Registrar Larry Lomax provided the total late this afternoon.

"It's not as heavy as Saturday was, but it's still a solid number," Lomax said while making rounds to about 25 sites open Sunday for voting.

On Saturday, more than 32,000 ballots were cast, easily surpassing the 25,100 votes logged on the first day of early voting in 2008.

County officials say they expect about 400,000 votes to be cast by the close of early voting on Nov. 2, four days before the Nov. 6 vote.

There are 852,000 registered voters in the county. About 20 to 25 places will be open each day for early voting, generally from 9 a.m. to 6 or 7 p.m.

Lomax said that voters can speed the voting process by knowing the candidates they are going to vote for, checking to make sure they are registered before they go to the polls and reading the sample ballot they should have received in the mail.

VegasSmitty, it seems all your time online has degenerated your grey matter, or perhaps it was the drugs.

Vegas Smitty, if there is something in the economy you don't like in the future, remember the words you wrote here...I know I will.

Waited about 10 minutes yesterday at our local early voting spot. It was busy all day!

If theres a line, I don't vote. Not my job to wait in line, lifes too short, want more people to vote, put it online. I can do everything else online, pay bills, buy a car, register to vote.

James: you may want to read the article one more time. Yesterday was the first day of early voting; over 30,000 people showed up to vote. That set a record. By the way, I was one of them and gladly stood in line for almost one hour to exercise my constitutional right to vote. Did you?

If 25,100 people voted on the first day of early voting in 2008 and over 25,000 are expected to vote today, how is that an indication of any kind of record/
