LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- More than 100 police officers swarmed Sam Boyd Stadium to squash a brawl between fans of rival Mexican soccer teams Chivas and Club America in the El Super Clasico event.
Police say the fight started around 7 p.m. Wednesday when fans started throwing bottles and rocks at each other an hour before the game started.
Police say six people were hurt in the brawl and taken to the hospital. There were no arrests made before the game, but the Las Vegas Sun reported that there were a few during and after the contest.
“In a situation like this, our goal is to restore order,” said Metro Officer Bill Cassell. “And if we can get in and restore order without resulting in arrests, a lot of times it’s faster, easier, safer, quicker.”
The brawl delayed many fans from getting into the game. The promoter will not say whether anyone might get a refund.
