LAS VEGAS (Nathan O'Neal, KSNV MyNews3) – Musicians Gloria and Emilio Estefan are helping move the Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health to the next level with a generous donation.

The famous couple recently announced a contribution to those suffering from the disabling neurological disease known as multiple sclerosis.

“We've been able to build up this great MS center with physical therapy service, counseling and education services, and our patients can't come,” says Le Hua, a neurologist at the clinic.

“The reason they can't come is that they don't have transportation.”

The Estefans’ contribution will help patients travel to the center.

“My father suffered from M-S. And we lost him very young. He was 47,” says Gloria Estefan in a video provided by the clinic. “He went downhill very fast. And at the time he died, there were no drugs, there were no treatments. And for me it takes on an even more special meaning.”

The couple has a close relationship with the clinic and its new program for MS patients. With the donation, the center will hire a transportation and services coordinator to help patients.

“So we're not creating new services and new program,” says Hua. “We're creating a way that you can get to that information much easier to have that one-on-one personal help you through this process.”

“A great portion of what we have is not just patient counseling; it's family counseling. It's educating everyone who could possibly be this patient's support system. And building that greater network so that everyone is connected and knows where to go to get the help they need.”

For Gloria Estefan, it’s personal.

“The disease doesn't just affect the victim that has the disease, it affects the family,” she says. “And we're really, really honored, thrilled to be a part of it.”
