SANFORD, Fla. (NBC News) Attorneys have wrapped up their closing arguments in the second degree murder trial of George Zimmerman.

"He's not guilty of anything but protecting his own life," defense attorney Mark O'Mara told the jury.

Prosecutor John Guy countered by reminding the jury of Trayvon Martin's own right to self defense on the night of their fatal encounter.

"That child had every right to be afraid of a strange man following him, first in his car and then on foot. And did that child not have the right to defend himself from that strange man?," Guy asked.

Zimmerman has pleaded not guilty, claiming he shot 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in self defense during a confrontation on the night of February 26 of 2012.
