LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- One of Metro’s most controversial officer-involved shootings took the life of Erik Scott, who was slain in the parking lot of the Costco in Summerlin in 2010.

Bill Scott, Erik’s father, talked Thursday to News 3 after the Department of Justice report on Metro's use of force policy was released.

Police say they had to shoot Scott because he was reaching for a gun while his father said his son was reaching for a cell phone.

Bill Scott says he's still digesting the report but hopes his son's death will bring changes.

“If Erik's legacy can be that Las Vegas finally – finally -- gets an honest, honorable police department that does not have 20, 30 officer-involved shootings every damn year, then Erik's death will not have been in vain,” he said.

Bill Scott also said that when Metro shot and killed his son, they killed the wrong man.

He says eventually metro will have to start working differently and urges people in Las Vegas to keep the pressure on.
