LAS VEGAS -- Three adults were displaced early Sunday when a fire caused by careless smoking caused $20,000 in damages.
Las Vegas Fire & Rescue crews responded to a residence in the 4900 block of Vega Lane (near Torrey Pines and Lone Mountain) at 2:36 a.m. Sunday. On arrival, smoke and flames were showing from the window of an upstairs bedroom of the two story wood frame/stucco house.
The was also an adult man with a dog sitting on the roof of the garage as firefighters arrived, apparently to escape the fire. Firefighters quickly put up a ladder and brought the two down. Neither the man nor his dog were injured.
Firefighters entered the home and had the fire out in a few minutes. The fire was confined to the bedroom. There was also heat and smoke damage on the second floor of the house. Damage was estimated at $20,000.
The occupant told investigators that the fire started because of careless smoking. Fire investigators determined the fire was accidental. The man told investigators that his exit was blocked in the bedroom when the fire started. He escaped out the bedroom window to the roof and waited for help to arrive.
The three adults living in the house are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
There were no reported injuries.
