LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews 3) -- Candles, careless smoking, electrical problems and kids playing with matches are some of the issues that have kept firefighters extremely busy since the beginning of the year.

Just this morning an apartment fire destroyed two units near Maryland Parkway and Katie.

If firefighters are busy that means the American Red Cross is busy too.

News 3's Denise Rosch is live at the scene of this morning's fire. Red Cross volunteers have helped more than 100 fire victims since January 1 and you can add another 5 people from this morning.

Two families will have to relocate after this fire that started about 6 a.m. Fortunately everyone did get out OK but clearly they'll need some emergency assistance, and that's where the American Red Cross comes in.
