(NBC News) Progress is being made against Idaho's massive Beaver Creek wildfire.
The Beaver Creek fire, one of dozens currently burning in 11 western states, has been out of control for weeks.
Crews are now making progress for the first time.
In the last two days containment has gone from eight to 30 percent, but the fight is still far from over.
More than 50 active and uncontrolled wildfires are burning in 11 states, pushing the national wildfire preparedness level to its highest tier for the first time in five years.
A violent blaze along the edge of the Yosemite National Park is one of nine fires burning in California national forests right now, while fires in Oregon have produced a blanket of heavy smoke that is making breathing difficult in many towns.
