PAHRUMP (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- Firefighters are working to control an 1,800-acre fire in Carpenter Canyon, located on the Pahrump side of the Spring Mountain Range.
Lightning strikes ignited the fire Monday. Officials say there are about 20 structures or homes in nearby Trout Canyon.
Firefighters worked through the night to try and protect those homes, cutting down flammable materials such as trees and shrubs.
No evacuations have been ordered because authorities with the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area say the fire is still a few miles from those homes.
Officials have asked for supplies. They add that luckily, a specialized initial fire attack crew was already in town in preparation for this weekend because of favorable fire conditions.
They had to start their work early in carpenter canyon and expect to work through this morning to try and contain the fire.
