SIMI VALLEY, Calif. (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- Jonathan Koppenhaver, the former MMA fighter accused of violently beating his ex-girlfriend in Las Vegas is being kept in a jail where he was found -- in Ventura, Calif.

Video obtained by News3 shows the moments leading to Koppenhaver’s capture. U.S. marshals surrounded the Extended Stay America in Simi Valley. Two officers positioned themselves at the corner of the building while a couple of other federal agents held an attack dog ready for the fierce man on the run.

"It was kind of weird to see a blacked-out government Tahoe sitting in our parking lot for the entirety of my lunch," says Rhett Torres, who had no idea what was happening, but decided to record it on his phone.

The senior accountant works right in front of the hotel. He never imagined Mixed Martial Arts fighter “War Machine” was the fugitive the authorities were tracking.

"He seems like a terrible person,” Torres says. “He's going through the court system, so I can't say from what I see he's not a nice guy."

U.S. marshals arrested Koppenhaver from inside the hotel. Witnesses say he was Tased.

Officers transferred Koppenhaver to the Ventura County jail. Sheriff's officials placed him in solitary confinement.

Officials say the man accused of beating his former girlfriend, Christy Mack, and another person would not get special treatment. Mack says Koppenhaver broke 18 of Mack's bones. Police records show Koppenhaver has a history of bar fights and assaulting women.
