LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) – Four people are dead and eight are in area hospitals this morning after a vehicle ran into a bus stop on Spring Mountain east of Decatur.

Clark County spokesman Dan Kulin said the call came in around 6:20 a.m. Some of those victims taken to UMC and Sunrise have suffered life-threatening injuries.

Four of the victims are at UMC. A spokesperson says that they are all male in ages from the late teens to their mid-40s. One victim is in serious condition, one is fair and two are good.

A spokesman at Sunrise confirms the hospital has four victims. It is unable to release condition status.

Metro says the driver was arrested in absentia because he is being treated in the hospital. The driver faces charges of DUI resulting in death.

He will be taken to jail when released from hospital.

There is a family staging area by the crash site near Terrible's Gas Station.

If anyone thinks they may have a loved one involved in today's crash, they can go to this location.

Check back for updates.

Why isn't this criminal charged with vehicular homicide? What he is being charged with will probably allow him to get out of jail in a few months or years. No wonder people continue this outrageous behavior. Seems like the more often these drunks get caught, the more often they get off with a slap on the wrist. The second DUI should land you in jail for about 15 to 20 years, murder by car should get you life for each count. The charges levied against this idiot are a disgrace to the victims and this community.

This is another example of our roadways and drivers here in Las Vegas. Its like the wild west, and unfortunately innocent people are the ones harmed the most. We need tougher enforcement out on the roads by law enforcement - more dui checkpoints, more redlight running enforcement. Law enforcement needs to step up and get drunk drivers, speeding drivers, drivers who don't even have licenses off the roads. Lets begin confiscating these habitual offenders by taking their cars (and auctioning them off to halp defray the enforcement costs), lets get red-light cameras at all intersections (there is no violation of privacy here period. the only ones who really cry the loudest are those more apt to offend!) We as a community need to put a stop to this kind of "violence" occurring on our streets. Let us ask ourselves this, do we feel safe walking along our streets, standing at our bus stops, and letting our kids ride bikes along our roads?

My prayers are with those affected by this tragic accident. I will have to disagree with Hooverest17 on the location of bus stops. Regardless of whether the bus stops are located before or after stoplights, drunk driving automatically places ANY PERSON at risk of being hit, injured, or killed. It doesn't matter where you may be, relaxing at home, working, walking, riding a bike...the path of a drunk driver is unpredictable! Unfortunately, we are not all endowed with common sense and self-discipline to do the right thing!

Let RTC come and relocate the bus stop, the stop should be on the side where the bus approach the light, not after the light. Placing the bus stop after the light put pedestrain in harm way as it did today. With a vehicle operated by a drunk driver, makes a left turn their equalibrium is off and they turn wider than they should, thus putting themselves and others in danger.
