LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- Those who knew and worked with fallen Metro Officer David Vanbuskirk say he was a warrior and a hero.

The Metro search and rescue officer fell to his death Monday night while rescuing a stranded hiker from a cliff in Mary Jane falls.

News 3's Sergio Avila is at Metro headquarters where he spoke with someone who knew both the warrior and the hero.

Doctor Tony Alamo is a tactical doctor for the search and rescue team.

He’s also former chairman of the Nevada Atheltic commission.

Alamo says he and Vanbuskirk immediately hit it off when Vanbuskirk joined search and rescue. He says the search and rescue team will move on, but never be the same.

Vanbuskirk was an avid mixed martial artist and fan of the sport. His second love was training instructor for the search and rescue medics.

The gym this warrior used to train at hosted a special fundraiser in his honor.
