LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3 & AP) -- Southwest Gas says it could take a couple of hours to fix a natural gas leak that forced the evacuation of four southwest Las Vegas apartment buildings.
Company spokeswoman Cynthia Messina says natural gas service has been shut off in the area while crews fix the 1-inch service line beneath Del Gado Drive.
But she says some residents are already returning to their apartments.
An odor of natural gas was reported about 1:30 p.m. Monday at the complex near Flamingo Road and Decatur Boulevard.
No injuries are reported. Clark County spokesman Dan Kulin says at least 30 people were asked to leave their homes, and others were prevented from returning home from work.
Officials brought school buses at the scene to provide people with an air-conditioned place to wait.
"We expect that number to increase as people return home from work," Kulin said through an email. "Two Clark County School District busses are there for those displaced residents.
The number of apartment buildings affected is more than originally reported. The number is at least 10.
The American Red Cross is assisting with food and beverages.
The gas leak has reportedly been stopped, meaning no new gas is coming from the pipe. It is unclear when the residents will be allowed to return to their homes.
