East Rutherford, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - As expected, the New York Giants officially placed running back David Wilson on injured reserve Tuesday.

Wilson's NFL career came to an end Monday when he was advised by doctors to no longer play football due to neck problems.

Wilson, 23, left practice last Tuesday with a burner and was sent to a hospital for tests on his surgically repaired neck. He sat out the remainder of last week's practices and Sunday night's preseason game.

On Monday morning, Wilson met with the doctor who performed his surgery in January to fuse vertebrae and repair a herniated disk, an injury Wilson suffered in a Week 5 loss to Philadelphia last season.

The advice not to play came from that doctor, Frank Cammisa Jr., and Giants team physician Russell Warren.

In two seasons with the Giants, the former first-round pick rushed for 504 yards and five touchdowns over 21 games -- including six starts. He caught six passes for 42 yards and a score.

The Giants will move forward with veteran free-agent acquisition Rashad Jennings and rookie Andre Williams atop the depth chart.

Also on Tuesday, the Giants signed tight end Jerome Cunningham and defensive end Israel Idonije and waived defensive end Kendrick Adams.

Idonije played in 15 games with the Lions last season. The 33-year-old previously played nine years for the Bears.

In 149 career games with the Browns, Bears and Lions, Idonije has 283 tackles and 29 sacks.
