LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- A 16-year-old female juvenile passenger died this morning when a car she was riding in crashed into a wall near Palora Avenue and McLeod Drive.
The area near McLeod and Desert Inn Road is closed while authorities investigate the crash involving a male driver and the female passenger
The accident happened just before 9 a.m. No other vehicles are involved, and police are checking road conditions. The male driver was transported to University Medical Center.
The passenger was transported to Sunrise Trauma, where she was pronounced dead.
Late this afternoon Las Vegas Metro police released more information.
Witness statements and evidence at the scene indicates the 1994 Toyota was traveling northbound on McLeod Drive in the bus turnout lane right of the northbound travel lanes.
The Toyota left the roadway traveling onto the east sidewalk striking a residential block
wall. The driver and passenger were transported to Sunrise Trauma where the passenger was pronounced dead by attending medical personnel.
The driver, identified as 19-year-old Gustavo Mahuiztl, sustained minor injuries and is expected to be released from the hospital.
This is the 92nd traffic related fatality in LVMPD's jurisdiction in 2012. The collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD Accident Investigations Section.
