RENO, Nev. (AP) — A week before the U.S. Postal Service closes a public comment period on a proposal to shutter a small post office in Sun Valley north of Reno, U.S. Sen. Dean Heller says he still hasn't received the explanation he's requested to justify the move.
The Nevada Republican said in a letter to the postmaster general last week he's not convinced there's been a close enough look at the negative impact the closure could have on consumers and businesses.
Service officials promised to get Heller any information he wants before the Sept. 29 deadline for comment on the proposal they say will save $500,000 over 10 years.
But they say they don't understand why the remaining 200 customers with Sun Valley PO boxes won't accept the home delivery available to everyone there.
