LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- A charity under fire from its founder is working to rebuild trust from the public.
Board members for the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth say they will not let former Henderson City Councilwoman Kathleen Vermillion destroy the integrity of the organization.
A lawsuit from Vermillion is preventing NPHY from releasing a precious audit which Chairman John Simmons says implicates Vermillion and exonerates the charity.
The Homeless Youth Foundation is the umbrella group formed to raise money for the NPHY. Except, instead of seeing money going in, Simmons says the opposite was happening.
Executive Director Arash Ghafoori says the controversy has threatened the charity's survival.
When the allegations started flying, the donations started to slow down but the need did not. More homeless kids walked through this door looking for help compared with last year, and the NPHY found a way.
