LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- The identities of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers involved in Saturday’s officer-involved shooting, which occurred in the 2300 block of North Jones Boulevard, have been released.
Melvyn F. English, 43, has been employed by the department since March 1992. He is currently assigned to the K-9 section.
Todd G. Edwards, 31, has been with the force since January 2006.
Christopher M. Grivas, 31, has been employed by Metro since December 2005.
Matthew J. Cook, 43, has been with the department since February 2004.
Truong T. Thai, 38, has been employed by the department since June 1999.
English, Edwards, Cook and Thai are assigned to the Northwest Area Command, Patrol Division.
Sharmel T. Edwards, 49, of Las Vegas died of multiple gunshot wounds during the encounter about 1:40 a.m. Saturday.
Police said a man reported that a woman he knew stole his car, but the woman ignored officers' commands after she was pulled over.
They said that after she pointed a gun at them, five officers fired handguns and struck her multiple times. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
