LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- The enrollment deadline to sign up for health insurance is Monday.

This weekend there is a last minute push to get Nevadans signed up for insurance. However some may qualify for a two month deadline extension.

Since Nevada Health Link opened, the state's exchange for insurance, there have been many problems in finishing the enrollment process.

More than 24,000 Nevadans have enrolled and paid, far lower than the projected estimates.

Silver State Health Insurance Exchange board members are frustrated with Xerox, the exchange's operating company.

Vice Chair Lynn Etkins says Nevadans have experienced many stumbling blocks while enrolling.

"We are going to fix Nevada Health Link with or without Xerox, and we are gong to be successful and we are going to get thousands and thousands of people registered through Nevada Health Link," Etkins said.

"We are making updates to the system every week and we will continue to do so after March 31st and are doing everything possible to improve the experience for members," said Xerox Vice President Greg Vitiello.

Now the final countdown is on to meet the national deadline of March 31 to avoid penalties by the federal government.

However because of the problems Nevada Health Link is experiencing, some Nevadans will have an extra 60 days to enroll during a special enrollment period that begins Tuesday April 1st and runs through May 30.

It only applies to those who attempted to enroll before March 31st, but encountered a technical problem.

Andres Ramirez is a designated navigator for the exchange.

"The extension is only for people who are already in the system. So if you haven't created an account or attempted to enroll yourself through Nevada Health Link before March 31st, there is nothing you are going to be able to do on April 1 to get yourself enrolled through the regular open enrollment process," said Andres Ramirez, is president of Ramirez Group, a designated navigator for the exchange.

To qualify for the special extended enrollment period, it is vital to have health insurance exchange ID number to prove you opened an account but encountered technical issues.
