LAKE MEAD (KSNV & MyNews3) -- A 30-year-old Las Vegas man apparently drowned Sunday afternoon in a small cove in Lake Mead, becoming the second apparent drowning victim since Thursday.

Alcohol was apparently a factor when the man was boating with some friends in a small cove just east of Calville Bay and jumped in without a life jacket and did not resurface, according to park rangers.

"He was struggling with the waves and did not have a life jacket," said Christie Vanover, spokeswoman for Lake Mead National Park. "We really want people to wear their life jackets, especially with the wind gusts up to 20 miles an hour that cause waves of 1 to 2 feet and just make it that much more difficult to survive."

Vanover said crews from the National Park Service and Nevada Division of Wildlife searched the area for two hours but did not find the victim. She said the water in the area is 80 to 90 feet deep.

She said divers from Metro will continue the search Monday.

Another man apparently drowned Thursday and crews are still searching for the body, Vanover said, adding that alcohol did not appear to be a factor.
