LAS VEGAS (KSNV) -- Leaders from the Catholic, Jewish, and Islamic faiths helped orchestrate a protest against Station Casinos. They claim the casino company has treated workers unfairly, and did not give pay increases in line with other casinos.
Hundreds of local Culinary Union members joined with the clergy members yesterday. They also sent a letter to the owners about "unfair" work practices, including not giving the workers pay increases in line with other casinos.
Some clergy members say they asked for a response, but owners never replied.
"We did send it registered mail. We did not receive a reply,” said reverend Leonard Jackson. “We came here today to follow up on that letter."
"They need to respect us,” said Culinary Union member Dawn Vaseur. “It's our sweat and our bodies and our ability to come to work every day and do whatever they say that made them the millions that they have today."
Station Casinos representatives said yesterday that they would welcome any discussion from the Culinary Union or the clergy members.
