LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- It took Helene Beck several days to realize that someone was stealing her mail pretty much every day. Feeling helpless, she wanted to do something about it. So Beck’s family set up a camera pointed right at the mailbox to help investigators catch these thieves.

Beck has lived in the same home for twenty years. Her mailbox has never had a lock on it but things had to change.

“I got a phone call from my credit card company early in the morning on a Sunday that my credit card was being used to make purchases on the internet,” Beck said.

Without realizing her mail was being stolen every day, she ordered a replacement card, which was delivered right to the crooks.

“They went down to home depot they went to a hat store called lids at some mall, they even went to taco bell and subs and such,” Beck said.

Beck finally had enough. And with the help of her kids she set up a camera from her window. it took some time, but finally they got the shot.

“Eight minutes in to our tape this, car comes in, and within two seconds the guy not only opened and closed the mailbox but turned around and left.”

The initial reaction was joy. But the family soon realized they haven’t caught the crooks – they only have their picture.

"We got him we got him, but we don't have him, we just have a picture."

Metro and postal inspectors are now on the hunt for the people in this car. Postal inspector Andrea Avery says identifying mail thieves is the biggest challenge. Protecting your mail should be a priority. Step one: pick up your mail as soon as possible.

“If your mail is kept overnight, it makes it easier for people to steal your mail,” Avery said. “The other thing I say is get a locking mailbox. You lock your car, you lock your house. Well your mail contains personal belongings as well, it contains your date of birth, your social security number, account numbers, pin numbers.”

In Beck's case, the thieves were bold enough to steal her mail broad daylight, and were in and out in seconds. She's asking for the community's help.

“The more people we get to see this picture and know what this man looks like, the faster we'll catch this ring.”

Beck is no longer taking any chances. She's taken out a P.O. box at the post office in hopes to prevent thefts from happening in the future.

Anyone with information on the identity of the thieves should call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 or visit Crime Stoppers online at http://www.crimestoppersofnv.com
