LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- A man is fighting to stay alive after he was hit by a car Thursday evening.

The auto-pedestrian accident happened just after 8:30 p.m. near Lake Mead Boulevard and North 5th Street. North Las Vegas police say the pedestrian was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition.

The streets have been shut down in that area as police investigate. Police were not able to say if the man was in a crosswalk or not. This is under investigation.

The 27-year old driver who hit him stayed on scene and is cooperating with police.
