LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- A Las Vegas man hit Sunday morning by a drunken driver as he did roadwork on West Sahara has been identified by the Clark County coroner's office.
Robert Lujan, 47, died of multiple blunt force trauma. The death was ruled an accident.
Shortly before 10 a.m., Lujan was cutting concrete with a wet saw in the bus lane on West Sahara Avenue between Valley View and Las Verdes Street when his vehicle was struck by a large pickup which in turn struck and killed Lujan.
The driver of the pickup that caused the accident was Rafael Mendez-Soto. He fled the scene on foot, but was apprehended by Metro after a short foot chase. He was found hiding in a Dumpster, police said.
The accident was the 44th traffic-related fatality in Metro's jurisdiction this year and the second within seven hours. An earlier accident at Mountain Vista Street and Carol Circle killed a woman about 3 a.m. Sunday.
