LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- Passenger traffic at McCarran International Airport is 3.5 percent better for the first three months of the year compared with 2013.
At its current pace, the airport could see more than 40 million passengers this year.
Numbers released this morning show 10.1 million arriving and departing passengers through the end of March compared with 9.8 million for the first three months of 2013.
"There have been small but steady increases in passenger traffic at McCarran International Airport for the past seven months," airport spokeswoman Christine Crews told News 3 via email. "We anticipate the modest gains in overall passenger traffic we had in 2013 will continue to carry on into 2014, as well as the growth in international passengers that we have experienced over the last few years."
American Airlines showed the greatest percentage increase among McCarran carriers with a 7.4 percent rise in 2014 compared with 2013 -- 661,688 passengers this year and 615,915 for the first three months a year ago.
Southwest, the largest volume carrier at McCarran by far, had 3,915,670 passengers in the first quarter of 2014 compared with 3,848,579 in 2013, a rise of 1.7 percent.
