LAS VEGAS (AP) — Officials are launching emergency daytime shelters for the homeless as temperatures in Las Vegas are expected to hit 112 degrees.

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning in southern Nevada and portions of southern California starting Tuesday morning and running through Wednesday night.

Forecasts call for highs around 112 on Tuesday and Wednesday, with overnight lows of 89 and 87 degrees, respectively.

Several community centers are opening their doors during the day to give homeless residents a place to cool off.
