MESQUITE, Nev. – The officers involved in Thursday's officer-involved shooting which occurred near 350 N. Sandhill Boulevard, have been identified as Officer Craig C. Empey and Detective Gary E. Erickson.
Officer Empey is 43-years-of age and has been employed with the Mesquite Police Department since June, 2006. He is currently assigned to the MPD Patrol Division.
Detective Erickson is 44-years-of-age and has been employed with the MPD since May, 1999. He is currently assigned to the MPD Investigative Service Division.
Both officers have been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a review of this event.
Mesquite Police Officer Jeffrey Smith said Officer Empey was wounded in the leg by a man who stepped from a blue 1996 Geo Metro with Utah license plates and fired one shot during a traffic stop a little before 8 a.m. Thursday.
