LAS VEGAS -- The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Hispanic Citizen’s Academy begins tonight at 6 p.m. at Howard Hollingsworth Elementary School, 1776 E. Ogden Avenue Las Vegas.
The HCA isdesigned as a traveling academy. This allows officers the flexibility to bring the academy to different communities around Las Vegas. Classes provide information to help citizens identify and report crimes such as domestic violence, human trafficking, gangs and narcotics.
The HCA course is nine weeks long with classes held every Wednesday, along with a graduation ceremony on the ninth week. The program first opened its doors in the fall of 2007.
The HCA is staffed with professional LVMPD commissioned, civilian and volunteer personnel. The staff will be available to answer any questions. All media outlets are encouraged to attend.
