LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- Two Metro SWAT officers involved in an officer-involved shooting Thursday morning on the west side have been identified as Sgt. Roderick Hunt and Officer Jay James.

A SWAT team was attempting to serve a search warrant to Patrick Malone in a child pornography investigation in the 7100 block of Pirates Cove, near Westcliff and North Buffalo.

According to an arrest report, the SWAT team started serving the search warrant about 9 a.m. and used a police bull horn to order the occupants from the dwelling. After getting no response from the apartment, the SWAt team breeched the front door and made entry.

James found the master bedroom door closed and took a position to cover the door while other SWAT members searched the rest of the apartment.

A short time later James tried to open the closed door and encountered a white male and yells "gun, gun" to alert other members of the threat. When a dark semi-automatic handgun Malone pointed toward James, Hunt fired several shots from his .223-caliber rifle at Malone. James also fired several shots from his 9-mm handgun.

Malone soon dropped his weapon, a .45-caliber handgun registered in his name.

Hunt is 48 and has been employed with the LVMPD since September 1989. James is 40 and has been employed with the LVMPD since March 2000. Both are assigned to the Emergency Operations Bureau, SWAT Section.

Hunt and James have been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a review of the shooting.
