LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- Investigators are still working to figure out what caused the fire that ripped through two mobile homes in the 3600 block of North Las Vegas Boulevard, killing three children on Friday.

Metro still hasn't decided if the parents who made it out alive will face criminal charges.

Children risked their lives to try and save the trapped children.

Ashanti Shumate, 9, can't get the images out of her head: flames shooting in the air as three defenseless children were caught in the mobile home inferno.

“We tried to get the babies out, but it didn't happen because the fire was knocking us down,” Ashanti said. “One of my mom's friends, we tried to grab the babies hands … they wasn't there.”

The parents say they were asleep in another part of the home when the fire started, and by the time they woke up, they weren't able to pull the babies to safety as they ran out of their trailer.

The families of the children are asking for privacy and say they do not want to release details of the children's funeral. They just want their babies to rest in peace.

Their deaths remain a thought all the children in the neighborhood are trying to come to terms with them believing the babies are in a better place.
