LAS VEGAS -- The American Red Cross of Southern Nevada has added cots and supplies to the shelter it opened Friday nigh in anticipation of accommodating more residents who were displaced tonight when the roof to their apartment building sustained damage.

The shelter is at Desert Pines High School at 3800 E. Harris, Las Vegas near Washington and Pecos. The damaged apartment building is at 3121 Karen Ave.

The shelter is expecting an additional 10 to 15 people coming from the Karen apartments. They will join the 35 residents that are already in the shelter from the storm on Friday night. They were displaced from the Atrium Garden Condos on Folage Street when falling trees damaged several units.

Animal Control has been notified, and is available should sheltering of pets become necessary.

Red Cross Disaster Action Team volunteers are meeting with the residents and will ensure everyone has a safe place to sleep and has food, clothing, medication and other essentials.
