LAS VEGAS -- Northbound lanes of Interstate 15 through Cajon Pass in Southern California will be restricted beginning Friday night.

Motorists have had to cope with lane closures since the highway rehabilitation project began earlier this summer. But starting Friday night, Aug. 8, major lane restrictions will be required so construction can continue.

Drivers can expect lane closures for up to five weekends.

Lanes will be reduced from four to three, and two during non-peak hours, on I-15 between California Highway 138 and Oak Creek Road, according to CalTrans.

State highway officials warn motorists there will be significant traffic delays on I-15 North during the project and are encouraged to use alternate routes, adjust travel time or share rides.

The $120 million project is replacing concrete slabs in the Cajon Pass that are beyond their life cycle with the benefit of extending pavement service life for up to 40 years with minimal maintenance.
