LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- A firefighter accused of hiring a man to kill his wife and his suspected accomplice appeared before a judge today at the Regional Justice Center.
On News 3 at Noon: Friends of Shauna Tiaffay attended this morning’s court proceedings. News 3’s Krystal Allan spoke with them and will present a report on News 3 at Noon.

George Tiaffay, 40, and Noel Stevens, 36, had their next court hearing scheduled for Jan. 24 by Judge Deborah Lippis.

The men are accused of killing Tiaffay’s wife, Shauna, 46. She was found beaten to death Sept. 29 in her Summerlin apartment.

Shortly before his arrest, George Tiaffay tried to kill himself by running his truck into a freeway barrier at 76 mph.

According to an arrest report, there were cell phone calls between George Tiaffay and Stevens. The report goes on to say that after the slaying, Stevens was bragging to friends about committing an "m" for $20,000.

An autopsy confirms she died of blunt force trauma to the head.

A couple of days before the slaying, we learned George Tiaffay bought a handgun and ammunition.

Shauna Tiaffay worked as a cocktail waitress at the palms casino, and neighbors say she was well-liked.

Friends and family say the couple had problems. Shauna’s sister described George Tiaffay as controlling and manipulative.

Up until a few months ago, the Tiaffay family lived in my Paseos neighborhood. Stevens, until arrested Wednesday, walked past our house every day to the shopping center where he was subsequently arrested. Many in our neighborhood kept a careful eye on him as we could tell he has issues (would behave in a childlike manner, speak out loud to himself). George Tiaffay took advantage of this and I find it hard to believe, George would rely on Steven to not share their secret. Hard to believe until I read where George purchased a handgun the day he had his wife murdered, but didn't register the handgun, and went to a practice range. Why buy a handgun if Stevens already murdered his wife? No doubt George was probably going to shoot Stevens and eliminate any concern he would leak the conspiracy. I also find it hard to believe Stevens never mentioned this to conspiracy to anyone prior to the incident given it seemed to be weeks in the planning. Again, Steven wasn't "all there". It's by the grace of God the police found the evidence at Stevens' tent located in the W. Charleston wash basin just before the heavy, heavy rains we received. This is where the police found Shauna Tiaffay's clothing and DNA from the blood on Stevens' jeans and tee shirt in his tent. What a difference a day makes as all of that would have surely washed away. Yes, a monster who should receive the death penalty.

What a sad day, things like this just do not have to happen, and in the community as a firefighter I guess you never know when monster are among us,I hope this is a death penalty case,it's terrible he committed this crime but to bring the little girl into see her own mother knowing what she would walk into,I should think this man doesn't deserve a second chance to be paroled and have any kind of chance to be a part of this little girl's life ever.If there is any justice for this young mother, please let it be this person is put to death.
