Indianapolis, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - The NCAA has suggested various limits to live contact practices throughout the year, including no more than two per week during the season.

Practice limits, suggested Monday by the NCAA after working with the College Athletic Trainers' Society, grew from a safety and concussion summit held earlier this year.

The two live contact periods throughout the regular season was a policy first implemented by the Ivy League in 2011 and then followed by the Pac-12 last season.

The NCAA also recommended two contact periods per week during the postseason, four per week in the preseason and eight during spring practices, when teams are limited to 15 sessions.

The main governing body of college sports also suggested that schools have independent doctors to evaluate injuries and a publically available process for integrating athletes back into their academic work after they have been diagnosed with a concussion.
