LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- The Nevada Highway Patrol says a tire issue may have been a contributing factor in the crash, which happened late yesterday afternoon on I-15 near Apex and claimed the life of a mother and her son.

The Clark County coroner’s office said Dani Jo Fox, 30, and Zachary Fox, 3, of Overton died in the accident that occurred around 4 p.m. in Apex. Three members of their family were injured.

Nevada Highway Patrol troopers say a Ford F-250 truck that was pulling a trailer behind it flipped over and went through the center median about 10 miles north of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway have been released.

NHP continues to investigate.

The family pickup was hauling a friend's trailer when the accident happened. The family says the pickup was headed southbound, although the wreckage ended up in the northbound lane.

The woman's husband and her two other children were also injured and taken to university medical center. Today all have been discharged.

Both parents were volunteer firefighters and EMT's in Overton.
A memorial fund account has been set up to assist the Fox family in Overton:
