LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- As the deadline for insurance enrollment approaches, the search is just beginning for an executive director to head up the state's health insurance exchange.
Steve Fisher has been heading the Silver State Health Insurance Exchange as interim director, now for a full week.
The exchange board is now moving forward with a national search for a new executive director, since Jon Hager recently resigned.
Ads will be posted across the country and resumes will be coming into the board's chairman. A hiring committee is being formed to begin selecting the best candidates.
"We want a good qualified pool of candidates without having to expose their names and application and endanger their current employment," said board chairman Barbara Smith Campbell.
The job announcement which is extensive offers an annual salary of $117,000.
The board also discussed bringing in consulting firm, Deloitte, to do an external analysis of the insurance exchange.
"We also have to look ahead to the next open enrollment," said interim director Steve Fisher.
Customer concerns were also brought up.
"Thank you for you being sorry but I'm afraid that help many any. I'm no further along than when I was actually in October on October 1. I am no further along," said customer Lawrence Basich.
Basich has been battling enrollment issues; his medical bills, which are at almost half a million dollars, remain unresolved.
And the company at the helm, Xerox, gave a progress report on the system and its many issues.
"Our goal that has been given to us from the state is 50,000. Our goal from the RFP is 150,000. Currently today we have 20,214 enrolled through the process," said Kristin Baca of Xerox.
But board members are clearly frustrated.
"I see you guys are making progress. I think that's great. These numbers are still astounding to me," said Lynn Etkins, vice chair of the Silver State Health Insurance Exchange Board.
As the board begins its search for another executive director, the enrollment deadline is rapidly approaching, now a little more than three weeks away.
